For a donation of a boat, you will recieve a discount off your next purchase.
MARQUETTE -- Some U.P. non-profit organizations will be getting some unique gifts this summer.
Down Wind Sports in Marquette has teamed up with Perception and Wilderness Kayaks for a program called "Paddle It Forward".
It works like this: if you're interested in purchasing a new kayak or canoe, contact Down Wind Sports and get a list of non-profits participating, like Bay Cliff or the Camp Hiawatha Boy Scouts, and you give them your old boat. For your donation, you'll receive 20 percent off the purchase of a new kayak or canoe.
"It truly is a win-win situation. The organizations benefit because they are getting free boats and they can develop a paddling program to get people interested in becoming paddlers, so not just a recreation activity, maybe moving on upgrading the boats and introduce students or adults to paddling programs," said Todd King, co-owner of Down Wind Sports.
If you're interested, contact Down Wind Sports before donating for complete details.
The program runs April 1 through August 31.
