Some groups are angry with President Obama's policy.
MARQUETTE -- The Catholic church in the U.P. is reacting Tuesday to President Obama's policy allowing federal funds for embryonic stem cell research.
Bishop Alexander Sample with the Diocese of Marquette says it's a great disappointment.
On Monday, President Obama signed an executive order allowing federal taxpayer dollars to fund embryonic stem cell research. Bishop Sample says it's immoral because it destroys human embryos, so even if a cure is found for treating diseases and conditions using embryonic stem cells, he says the Catholic church would be against it.
"A good end never justifies an evil means to achieve that end, and what we're basically doing is taking one human life and destroying it for the benefit for another human person," said Bishop Alexander Sample with the Diocese of Marquette.
Bishop Sample says the church is not opposed to using adult stem cells, which he says have already proven to help treat several diseases.
