To help the Alger County Animal Shelter
MUNISING -- In this tough economy, everyone takes a hit, even local animal shelters. Thankfully, people help out, like on Sunday in Munising.
It was the 10th Annual Chili Fest, benefiting the Alger County Animal Shelter.
Not only did people fill up on chili, they also bought raffle tickets and baked goodies.
It takes $25,000 a year to run the shelter.
"We haven't really seen a whole lot of difference in the shelter; we still have about the same amount of cats and the same amount of dogs, as we did," says animal shelter president Autumn Jauck, "but we've actually had some surrenders, some people who've given up their animals because they couldn't take care of them."
The shelter relies mostly on donations and adoption fees to keep running.
