ESCANABA -- Bay de Noc Community College in Escanaba will be offering a new degree next fall.
Recently, the college's board of trustees voted to offer an associate's degree in hospitality management.
The two year program will be offered this fall only at the Escanaba Campus. The school felt this industry is important to the economy in the Upper Peninsula.
By 2012, the Department of Labor and Economic Growth expects the hospitality industry to show some of the largest growth in Michigan.
"Part of the curriculum that we're using is from the American Hotel and Lodging Association, and that's an international organization with certificates for the courses. So the students that leave here, their portfolio is built, not only on a Bay degree, but on this certificate," said Bay's Dean of Business and Technology, Allen Yeck.
Bay's business division offers over 13 associate degrees.
