IRON MOUNTAIN -- One man's commitment to the Iron Mountain downtown area has earned him some well deserved recognition.

Don Khoury, owner of Wishing Well Gifts and a volunteer with the Downtown Development Agency, was named the first ever volunteer of the year.

Downtown officials say Khoury's energy and dedication made him the overwhelming choice for the award, but that's not why Khoury donates his time.

“It makes me feel humble, which it should be, really, because you should do things because you want to do them and not for all the notoriety.  But I just continue to do things.  My mother taught me that many years ago when I was a kid:  do things for people and got involved in people's lives and help them out the best you can,” said Khoury.

Khoury has been in business downtown for nearly 40 years and has been actively involved in programs such as the farmer's market and Italian Fest.
