Salvation Army is seeing a decline in donations.
MARQUETTE -- Thanksgiving Day usually means a lot of food on the table, but some people won't be as fortunate.
The poor economy has put a strain on people's wallets and their donations.
The Salvation Army has seen an increase in the number of people needing help. Not only is food in high demand, but monetary donations are welcomed to help fund lunch programs.
With more people relying on area food pantries, the shelves are not easy to keep stocked.
"We're seeing 50 families on average each month, brand new or people who have not been here for five years. But that means that our numbers are going up drastically, and we can barely keep the shelves full," said Salvation Army Captain Donna Rose.
