Fund-raising efforts pay off.

MARQUETTE, MI -- The Northern Michigan University weightlifting program got some encouraging news Wednesday.  USA Weightlifting announced it will be able to continue the NMU program until at least June 1, 2009.  In fact, the USAW is hoping to support the program through the 2012 Olympic Games in London.

The NMU program had been scheduled for cancellation.

The reprieve came due to the fund-raising efforts of the USAW membership and the title sponsor, Werk San Barbells.

"I would like to thank NMU and USOE for being patient with USA Weightlifting as our organization works through this difficult issue and our financial challenges," said  Dennis Snethen, the USA Weightlfting executive director.
