HANCOCK -- A fledgling coal stove company in Hancock says business has exploded since they opened a year ago, with customers driving from as far as Minneapolis.

The coal pellet stoves are becoming more popular as fuel oil costs remain high.

So far the owners of Harrington Ridge Coal and Stove have sold 80 coal stoves.

They say anthracite coal burns cleaner than regular coal.  It also burns hotter and longer than wood pellets.

"Our customers have been the best salespeople for us.  When somebody gets one and sees it and what they're saving, they tell five or six other people." said the co-owner of Harrington Ridge Coal and Stove, Matt Arko.

Coal stoves range in price from $2,000 to $5,000.
