But Steelworkers and students are already collecting.

NEGAUNEE -- The 2008 TV6 Canathon officially gets underway on Monday, but students in Negaunee and Ishpeming got off to an early start on Friday.

The kids have been collecting cans for the hungry, and on Friday, the local steelworkers unions picked the cans up. Just in Negaunee alone, 3000 pounds of food were collected.

"Collecting cans is for the needy," explained Marisa Tasson of Negaunee Middle School, "and it's really important that they have food and are able to survive."

The cans collected on Friday will got to the Salvation Army where they'll feed a hungry neighbor.
