MARQUETTE -- A local business was recognized Thursday for their commitment to hiring U.S. veterans.

At a reception Thursday afternoon, Michigan Works presented American Eagle Airlines with the Hire Vets First Business of the Year award due to the high number of veterans working for the company.

"Out of 163 of their mechanics here in Marquette, 101 are veterans," said Paul Arsenault of Six Co. Employment Alliance.  "We promote the veterans as American heroes at work because they're committed, they're trained, and they do an excellent job."

Hire Vets is a national program created to develop awareness among employers about the value of hiring veterans.

Veteran employees at American Eagle were also recognized at the ceremony.  In addition, the Marquette County Board of Commissioners proclaimed November to be Hire Vets First Month.
