MARQUETTE -- A new north/south route could soon be in store for Marquette residents.

The Upper Peninsula Medical Center has agreed to give the City of Marquette the 50' by 650' necessary to extend McClellan Avenue.  In exchange, the city will handle getting DEQ permits and any expenses required when the center wants to complete its parking lot addition on wetland property...a deal the city manager says came just in time.

"This commission, as a result of the impending truck ordinance, decided that we need to move forward on McClellan for the north/south route within the city," said City Manager Judy Akkala.

Before construction of the McClellan extension can begin, the city has to arrange for the mitigation of the wetlands first.
