LANSING -- A new poll shows Democrat Barack Obama leading Republican John McCain in Michigan by 22 percentage points.

The Big Ten Battleground Poll shows Obama with 58 percent, McCain with 36 percent.  McCain advertising was pulled out of Michigan about a month ago.

The poll had more bad news for McCain throughout the Midwest.  In Obama's home state of Illinois, Obama is up 29 percent.

He's up 19 percent in Minnesota, 13 percent in Iowa and Wisconsin, 12 points in Ohio, 11 points in Pennsylvania, and 10 points in Indiana.

The margins in Ohio and Indiana are particularly surprising because other polls have shown those states to be up for grabs, and both would be almost essential for a McCain victory.

The Big Ten poll has a margin of sampling error of 4.2 percent.
