ESCANABA -- A 51-year-old Perkins man accused of pointing a gun at two people appeared in Delta County District Court Wednesday for a preliminary hearing. Greg Heynssens is charged with two counts of felonious assault with a dangerous weapon.

The first witness on the stand was a Michigan State Police Trooper who found a loaded rifle in the defendant's pickup truck. The second witness, Janice Carol Dauston, had been in a relationship with Heynssens.

She was at his house on November 6 when the defendant came out of the house with a gun. Dauston says he pointed it at her head and her 15-year-old daughter's head.

"I was in shock and I couldn't believe it, for one. I was scared. I didn't know if he was going to pull the trigger at my daughter," explained a teary Dauston.

She testified that she thought she and her daughter might die that day.

Heynssens' next court appearance has yet to be scheduled.
