MARQUETTE -- A Gwinn man is going to prison for sexually assaulting an 11-year-old girl.

Jason Saumier was sentenced to 25 to 50 years in prison in Marquette County Circuit Court on Friday. He was found guilty of eight counts of first degree criminal sexual conduct involving the now 13-year-old girl.

The sexual assaults happened over a period of two years, according to authorities. Saumier denied the charges.

"I still stand by...they can say I did, but I also know that I didn't," said Saumier. "She was with more people by age 14 than I was...your honor I object."

Saumier said that he'll appeal the case. He'll also have to pay about $1,000 in court costs.
