GLADSTONE -- Many woke up extra early to run and walk for a cause:  the 15th Annual 5k Gladstone Turkey Trot. Race Officials say it keeps growing every year.

Last year 180 people participated, but this year more than 200 people took part.

The trot supports the local Salvation Army and St. Vincent De Paul Society. All participants had to do was bring canned goods or a monetary donation.

"It's turned into people returning home for Thanksgiving, and this has become a tradition for them as a family. They come down, not just one to two individuals, but we see groups of families," said Dan Paul, Race Director.

"Delta county is an incredibly caring and understanding community. They really are concerned about their friends and neighbors. They look for ways to reach out and help those people," said Ralph Hansen, Escanaba Salvation Army.

"It seems like the people that are willing to help are willing to go the extra mile to help," said Mike Klimkowski, volunteer.

The first ones to cross the line finished in about 15 minutes. After the trot, runners enjoyed cookies and refreshments.
