MARQUETTE -- A mix of fun and education drew families to the Marquette Regional History Center Saturday morning.

The center hosted "harvesting gales" -- the first monthly themed event. Activities ranged from churning old fashioned butter to grinding corn and making apple cider.

Organizers say the festivities are a way to introduce the community to the center and the exhibits.

"I think we're one of the gem in the rough that people don't know we're down here and what we're all about. So it's trying to get them to come in the door and see what we're all about," said Robert Mercure, volunteer.

The history center plans to hold a themed event every third Saturday each month with the exception of December, because of the holidays.

There will be one in January, though, featuring woven materials.
