MARQUETTE COUNTY -- The race for Probate Court Judge in Marquette County has been narrowed down to two candidates, Cheryl Hill and George Hyde.

Hill raked in the most votes with 4,271, while Hyde earned 2,621.

Hill, who is from Marquette, is the current Chief Assistant Prosecutor. She previously served as Marquette County's Chief Civil Counsel. Hyde, who is originally from L'Anse, has been the Juvenile Court Referee for the past 11 years.

"I want to really understand what the community feels about those who are less fortunate, because that's really what the probate deals with, people who can't speak for themselves," said Hill. "And I want to be able to take the stories of the voters with me as, hopefully, I ascend to the bench."

"The combination of my practice, 18 years of law practice, representing individuals, and then by 11 years of judicial experience, I think that combination clearly makes me the most qualified candidate for the job," commented Hyde.

Both candidates will face off for judgeship in the November elections.
