Celebrating Christmas at the Ishpeming Carnegie Public Library

ISHPEMING -- The sights and sounds of the season were on display Sunday afternoon at the Ishpeming Carnegie Public Library. The Friends of the Library held their holiday open house.

It's an event that's been around for more than 30 years.

Along with the cookies and candies, there was holiday music from a string quartet centering around a Christmas tree theme. More than a dozen trees were decorated and displayed by the Friends of the Library and Bryn Smith.

The library also had a collection of 70 Santas positioned around the library.

This event is a fundraiser for the library with calendars and cookbooks for sale and a chance to help a local charity.

Mary Kelly with the Friends of the Library says, "People have been invited to look at the trees and also to bring children's books that we will be taking to the Cheer Club so that adults and children are helping other children in the community."

There's still time to donate a toy or book to the Cheer Club. Just drop them off at Mining Journal offices.
