MARQUETTE -- Northern Michigan University's annual Lighting Up the Holidays event did just that Wednesday evening in Marquette. This was the 24th year NMU has put on the event.

Santa Claus was there for photos and to talk to kids about their Christmas lists. The local Girl Scouts sang Christmas carols and New Attitudes Dance Studio also had a performance. NMU Student Union President, Ben Stanley, talked about the why students enjoy this event.

"It's a great opportunity for the children to come and experience the college life a little bit and to meet the students and see how much they enjoy Marquette and to see all the different buildings with all the different classes, and you really meet a lot of teachers here, as well," said Ben Stanley ASNMU President.

Lighting Up the Holidays was free for everyone and open to the community. The event lasted from 4:30 to 8 p.m., and the NMU Bookstore also stayed open until 8 p.m. as they held their annual holiday sale.
