A low pressure system over Missouri on Thursday morning is expected to move northeastward. It will be located over Lower Michigan by Thursday evening, bringing widespread heavy snowfall to much of Upper Michigan.

The snow will start in the south just before sunrise. Snowfall will become heaviest during the day on Thursday across the eastern Upper Peninsula, sometimes as much as 1 to 2 inches per hour. By the time it's all done on Friday, some east U.P. areas will have over a foot of snow.

Additionally, strong north winds will cause areas of blowing snow from late Thursday through Friday. This combination of snow and blowing snow will result in treacherous driving conditions, reducing visibilities to basically zero and creating snow-covered roadways.
