MARQUETTE -- Some local celebrities will be putting on their dancing shoes for a good cause. Tuesday was the meet and greet for the first Dancing With the Stars Marquette County Style event. The dance competition will raise money for U.P. Home Health and Hospice. The dancers are paired with professionals who will teach them various styles of dance.

"Hospice is such an important part of our community that people just don't realize that there's a service out there to make your life happier, your families' life happier. So if we can help raise awareness, friends and funds, we've done our job," said organizer Lindsay Hemmila.

Among the eight celebrity couples are State Representative John Kivela, Marquette police chief Mike Angeli and TV6's own Steve Asplund. Participants will have more than a month to practice their moves. The actual Dancing With the Stars event will take place May 23 at the Forrest Roberts Theatre.
