ISHPEMING -- The Ishpeming School District will have a new superintendent next year.

The Ishpeming School Board members decided not to renew the contract of Dr. Stephen Piereson at their meeting Monday night.  The board instead will look for an interim part-time superintendent to work about three days a week next year.

The move was part of an established cost reduction plan.

"We can't go forward and hire a full-time superintendent, and we don't necessarily want to do that.  We know what our community is, we know what our school system is.  We know how this place runs, we know we have very, very qualified people here in the system," said School Board President, Geno Maino.

Piereson has been with Ishpeming Schools for more than twenty years.  His contract expires in June.

Board members hope to develop a future superintendent from their current staff while the interim fills the position next year.
