MARQUETTE -- The Michigan Department of Natural Resources' director is meeting with staff and stakeholders in the Upper Peninsula this week. Keith Creagh was in Marquette Tuesday for several meetings that focused on his plans and goals for the DNR. Creagh was appointed by Governor Rick Snyder last July. He says the U.P.'s resources are a key to its economic strength.

"A $5 billion hunting and fishing industry, a $14 billion forestry industry, a $4 billion boating industry...we have great assets, great resources," said Creagh. "So what we need help with is to work with local communities in the Upper Peninsula to tie those natural resources to the regional economies so we can make a difference."

Creagh will continue to meet with staff through the week. Wednesday he'll be in Newberry.
