MARQUETTE -- Children from all over the Upper Peninsula rang in the New Year early at the U.P. Children's Museum Elementary Ball Drop.  The festivities got underway at 5:30.

This year's party featured a new and improved lighted ball, a DJ, snacks, and party favors.

It was the 16th year for the ball drop and nearly 200 children attended.

"It's the exclusive premiere event for the New Year for kids, and so we usually have lots of kids in the place. It's filled to the gills with kids...it's really fun," said Museum Director, Nheena Weyer Ittner.

Organizers say the event is always their most popular of the year.  Planning is already underway for next year's celebration.
