NEGAUNEE TOWNSHIP -- People from the community got a chance to take a tour of UPAWS in Negaunee Township on Saturday.

It was the annual Home for the Holidays Open House. The seven-hour event also offered a discounted price for anyone interested in adopting a pet.

Upper Peninsula Animal Welfare Shelter says this event is put on every year as a thank you to the community.

"We work very, very hard to find homes for all of our animals...Our community is very supportive to us and we are very, very grateful," said Ann Brownell, Vice President of UPAWS.

Supporters of the shelter, along with volunteers, donated food for the visitors. There were also free goody bags for the dogs and cats.
