Pedestrians injured in hit and run accident

MARQUETTE -- The Marquette City Police are looking for any witnesses to a car pedestrian accident at the corner of South Front and Genesee Streets. The accident happened at about 10:25 pm Wednesday night.

Two pedestrians, a 39-year-old man and a 42-year-old woman, were heading east toward the lake from Genesee Street when they were struck by a southbound vehicle on South Front Street heading towards Harvey. The vehicle left the scene.

Both of the pedestrians, whose names are not being released at this time, were taken by ambulance to Marquette General Hospital where they remain hospitalized.  Their conditions are unknown at this time.

"Anybody out there, if they saw anything that evening or have any information regarding this accident, we're asking them to please contact us," said Captain Blake Rieboldt of the Marquette Police Department.

The accident remains under investigation.
