Fire consumes a Negaunee home

NEGAUNEE -- UPDATE: 10:45 p.m.

Fire has destroyed a home in Negaunee.  The Negaunee City Fire Department was called to a home at 118 East County Road around 5:00 p.m.

The house was fully engulfed when they arrived on scene.  One person, Elizabeth Laforest, was inside the home when the fire started.  She was able to get out safely with her dog.

They declined assistance from the Pigs N' Heat Fire Relief Fund.  The house was insured.

Firefighters were on the scene for about three hours.  Officials have not been able to determine the cause of the fire.

Fire heavily damaged a home in Negaunee on Tuesday evening.

The fire broke out at a home near Tracy Mine and Patch Road just before 5 p.m.  Negaunee fire officials say the house was fully engulfed when they arrived on scene. 

Officials say they aren't sure what caused the fire.  It remains under investigation.
