HOUGHTON -- Some Copper Country businesses are teaming up for a contest to make prom more special for high school girls.

Salon Benefique and Photos by Freya are holding the Pampered Prom essay contest for girls from Calumet, Houghton, Hancock, Dollar Bay, Lake Linden, South Range, and Jeffers high schools. Girls can submit an essay about someone they feel deserves to be pampered for prom.

The winners will receive a corsage, a dinner gift certificate, a photo shoot, and a salon package including hair, makeup, and nails.

"We really just want to recognize excellence in the youth in the Copper Country," said Salon Benefique owner Stephen Gostlin. "We thought this was another natural way to do that with prom season coming up, especially since proms can be so expensive not only for the students but for their parents. You've got your dress, you've got the dinner, all of that."

Essays are due by April 1. For more information on how to submit and essay, check out the Pampered for Prom Facebook page.
