The Munising Moose Lodge held their 28th Annual Fishing Derby on Au Train Lake

AU TRAIN LAKE -- This weekend, residents took to the ice in hopes of wheeling in a big catch despite weather conditions.

The Munising Moose Lodge held their 28th Annual Fishing Derby on Au Train Lake.

Colder weather and heavy, snowy conditions did decrease the amount of participants that came out, however, the ones who were there didn't let it stop them from reeling in a fun day with the family.

“Makes it a little bit more fun,” said Calvin Smith from Sault Ste. Marie. “We caught a few right away this morning.”

Gary Kivel from the Munising Moose Lodge says the little competitors make it enjoyable.

“When the kids start bringing the fish in and how excited they are, you get a kick out of it,” said Kivel.

Approximately 80 adults and 20 children came to the event and were able to reel their rods from 7 a.m. until 3 p.m.
