GLADSTONE -- Gladstone High School students are helping younger Gladstone students as a part of Big Brothers/Big Sisters' mentoring programs.

Tuesday they focused on math, since the principal says the subject can be a hurdle for some.

The program in Gladstone has been going on for the last thirteen years.  It's made a difference in the lives of junior high and elementary students who look up to the athletes and other students and who are leaders in their classes.

"We have to do more with less.  With that being said, we have more students in the classroom, so that means less time for teachers to spend time with their instruction individually.  This helps fill that gap and helps them do better," said Gladstone Junior High Principal, David Ballard.

School officials say the program does impact the students whose grades and social skills improve from the mentoring.
