IRON MOUNTAIN -- An Iron Mountain woman was sentenced to serve nine months in jail and over a year of probation for home invasion.

Back in June, 26-year-old Ashley Wieland was convicted for home invasion in the third degree, stolen property in the second degree and possession of methamphetamine.  Wieland broke into an empty Iron Mountain residence and stole over $1,000 worth of jewelry.

"Although I take full responsibility for the crimes I have committed, I also would like it to be known that I am not a heartless monster that I have portrayed myself to be. I was under the influence of a very mind altering drug," explained Wieland to the court.

Wieland also apologized to the owner of the home who was also present in the courtroom.  When the home invasion took place, the homeowner says she was in Ireland putting up a stone for her son who passed away.
