NEGAUNEE -- Plenty of snow has started to pile over the last couple weeks, allowing snowshoe trails to get the attention they deserve. Some parks have free snowshoe rental, but the DNR is offering a "do it yourself" option.

The Michigan Iron Industry Museum will be hosting a two day snowshoe making workshop this coming weekend. Participants who sign up for the program will learn how to lace their shoes in a Green Mountain Bearpaw style, which can support up to 200 pounds.

The workshop costs $175 per person. The package includes a complete snowshoe kit and a $25 built-in reservation fee.

The program will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday. Class space is limited, and the deadline to sign up is Tuesday. Check on the events page at www.michigan.gov/dnr to reserve your spot. You can also call (906) 475-7857 or email hendersont7@michigan.gov.
