HANCOCK -- Portage Health Hospital is celebrating National Hospital Week and Nurses Week. To show how much they appreciate their staff, the hospital is offering up a variety of activities.

The hospital offered up fitness demos where staff members got a chance to learn the proper way to use resistance bands.  The staff also got a chance to relieve some of their stress with a free chair massage.

With an estimated 200 licensed nursing staff members, Portage Health showed its thanks by giving each nurse a gift.

"Our staff gives back to the community all year long, and it can be a stressful job at times, and so we take Hospital Week to recognize and honor and celebrate our staff," said Relations Coordinator Karen Dugdale.

"We're recognizing nurses because they are the ones who are at the bedside, day in and day out, making a difference in a patient's life," said Manager of ICU Paula Polso.

The week will end with more fitness demos and a variety of healthy snacks.
