MARQUETTE -- Northern Michigan students got to hear from a professional forensic scientist Thursday night. Ray Wickenheiser is serving as the Laboratory Director for Montgomery county Police Crime Lab. Thursday he shared his expertise and highlighted the difference between the actual job and television dramas like CSI.
"What you see on TV, a lot of it is, of course they have to jam the whole thing into a one hour program, it takes a lot longer and it's very meticulous and there's a lot of things we have to do but what we can do is actually very similar," said Wickenheiser. "We've got limited resources, we do the best we can but we don't drive hummers to crime scenes we do it within the means of which we have."
Wickenheiser also spoke about the advances he's seen in his 30 years in the field. He says the two biggest advances are the increase in equipment sensitivity and larger databases.
