ESCANABA -- The Escanaba Bark River Lions Off-Road Icebreaker Contest is underway.

For the third year, there's an empty truck sitting on about two feet of ice at the Escanaba Municipal Dock. People are hoping it plunges through and they cash in.

Participants purchase a ticket for two dollars and guess when the truck falls in.  The money helps local charities.

Prizes include half of the total cash purse, $500 in Firestone tires from Mr. Tire, and two passes to the Bark River Off-Road Races, which will now be in June instead of August.

"The nice thing about this truck is once it sinks, everybody's happy because we know spring is here.  We don't need a groundhog.  We just need the truck to sink, and then everything's good.  This is all live on www.barkriveroffroad.com. We have a 24-7 web cam on it," said Lions Club Vice President, Toby Kuivinen.

Officials say the truck's interior and engine have been removed, so the fundraiser is eco-friendly.
