GWINN -- Gwinn area residents got together for some bowling on ice Saturday.

It was the third annual Ice Bowling Tournament at the Peter Nordeen Park in Gwinn. It's a fundraiser for the Forsyth Township Volunteer Fire Department. The event is a friendly competition that also involves food and a large trophy for the winning team. Money raised helps the fire department purchase equipment and train their staff.

"It's also a fun time for people to get together in the middle of winter when there's not a whole bunch to do up here in the UP," said Michele Copley, an ice bowler.

The tournament continues Sunday. The fire department asks for $10 per player, preferably with a team of four.
