HANCOCK -- The sixth annual Barneløpet cross country skiing event is taking place this Sunday, February 10 at the Maasta Hiihto trails in Hancock.

Barneløpet is open to kids ages three to 17 as well as their families. The event is free and participants all receive a medal at the end of the ski.

There are four different trails for participants to ski on that are either one kilometer, two kilometers, four kilometers, or six kilometers. Barneløpet is held every year to encourage kids to get active and take part in winter sports.

“Hopefully the kids learn a little more about cross-country skiing, learn that it can be fun, get out in the outdoors, get outside and enjoy the winters that we have here,” said event coordinator, Wayne Stordahl.

The event begins at two p.m. Registration is at one p.m. in the chalet.
