NEGAUNEE -- The annual winter celebration known as Heikki Lunta is set for this Saturday and Sunday in Negaunee.

This year's festival features a fishing derby out on Teal Lake as well as bonfires on the shore. Fireworks and feasts are also part of the festivities.

Organizers say one of the crowd favorites of Heikki Lunta is the fireworks show.

"I think the people in the community look forward to it," said organizer Kimmie Peterson. "It kind of breaks up the winter a little bit to come out and do something. It's just a couple of days. In Houghton, at Michigan Tech, they do the big ice sculptures, and our winter fireworks are not as big as our summer fireworks, but the reflection off the snow makes it really nice, and people have enjoyed it. We've had a lot of positive comments from that."

The fishing derby starts at 8 a.m. on Saturday, and the cost is $1 for children 12 and under and $5 for adults.

The fireworks start at 7 p.m. Saturday, and on Sunday morning, there will be a buffet breakfast put on at the Negaunee Eagles starting at 9 a.m.
