CALUMET -- Five day cares in Calumet, made up of 17 kids, are donating non-perishable food items to the Angel Mission.

The Angel Mission is a free store that aims to help people in need throughout the Calumet area. Students dropped off multiple bags of food for the mission.

Angel Mission organizers say last year they helped feed 137 people, and this year the need is even greater.

"We've noticed in the last three months we've probably doubled the amount of food," said Terry Bazin, director of Angel Mission.  "I don't know the reason. I don't know if there's cuts or back to school, but I have noticed the need has grown."

After the kids donated the food, as a thank you from the mission, the kids were given a free goody bag.

The Angel Mission is giving a pizza party to the day care that donates the most food.
