Stolen car crashes into police department

Police say subject was under the influence

GLADSTONE, MICH -- Public safety officers in Gladstone, Michigan didn't have to go far to find a stolen vehicle suspect. He crashed into their building just after 6 p.m on Wednesday.

A Gladstone Public Safety sergeant says three officers had to fight with the suspect, identified as Robert John Anderson of Gladstone.  Authorities say the vehicle had just been stolen from the US-2 & 41 overpass construction area. The vehicle belonged to one of the construction workers.

Anderson was taken to St. Francis Hospital where he was treated for injuries. He was in court on Thursday morning for his arraignment. Anderson is facing five charges, four of which are felony.

He is being charged with destruction of property, stealing a vehicle, possession of a controlled substance, assault of a public safety officer, and driving under the influence of drugs. Anderson will be back in court on August 16 at 9 a.m. He is being held on $10,000 bond.

As for the garage door, police say it’s not currently operational. It will have to be replaced.
