MARQUETTE -- More than 400 people put their running shoes on Saturday morning and burned off some calories for a cause.

The YMCA held its 12th annual Run/Walk event, and they kicked it off with a youth run as early as 8:30 a.m. Runners and walkers could choose from a 5K, 10K or a 10-mile race with registration running up to $20 per person. All of the proceeds benefit a cause near and dear to the Y.

"One hundred percent of the proceeds benefit our Strong Kids scholarship campaign, our community benefit campaign, which gives scholarship programs and memberships to the YMCA for low-income families, so it's a great day to come out and run and walk for a really good cause," Race Director Jenna Zdunek said.

The event raised $5,800.
