JACKSON, MICH. (AP) -- A 75-foot-tall concolor fir from Jackson has been selected as the Christmas tree to decorate the Michigan Capitol lawn this year.

MLive reports Jackson residents Anthony and Stephanie LaPorte are donating the tree, which is in a yard on the city's east side.

On Nov. 2, volunteers from the Michigan Association of Timbermen and the Great Lakes Timber Professionals Association plan to cut down the tree and transport it to Lansing. The next day, Lansing's Hi-Ball Co., which is donating a crane and crews, will set the tree on the front lawn of the Capitol.

Officials accepted nominations from around the state through the end of July and then began evaluating trees. The Jackson tree first was nominated in 2009.

A tree-lighting ceremony is Nov. 16.
