MARQUETTE -- Marquette Alternative High School's successful "Rock the Socks" fundraiser brought in 3,427 pairs of socks for people in need.

Earlier this month, the school teamed up with Northern Michigan University during a hockey game and asked people to throw socks instead of pucks onto the ice. Five-hundred-twenty-seven pairs of socks were donated there.

Marquette Area Public Schools, NICE Community Schools, North Star Academy, Ishpeming and Negaunee High Schools, along with Hot Plates, also donated to the "Rock the Socks" fundraiser.

The socks were given to St. Vincent de Paul in Marquette.
