NEGAUNEE -- The World Day of Prayer is celebrated in almost 200 countries and regions, including Negaunee.

Every year a different country is selected to focus on. This year France was picked and they chose the theme "I was a stranger and you welcomed me".

Over a dozen women filled the seats of Mitchell Methodist Church for the yearly prayer day.

The women said even though the prayers focus on France's issues, they are problems we all share.

"Even in our own region, right here in Ishpeming and Negaunee, we have people who are in need of food, in need of clothing, in need of a way to provide for themselves and for their children. This is a worldwide thing," said Lois Hatch, program leader.

The origins of World Day of Prayer date back to the 19th Century.
