ESCABABA -- After a recent joint meeting of the Electric Advisory Committee and Escanaba City Council, the city is still no closer to selling the power plant to Escanaba Green Energy.

The power plant's sale price is nearly $1.7 million. The buyer is hoping to close on the plant sale no later than May 28, but the city has no deadline.

According to the electric superintendent, the buyer does not have the money, and they are still looking to secure a loan for it.

"Unfortunately, I don't think either side saw it going this long. But it's still the best option for the city. I would think we'd be willing to continue on for some time," said Mike Furmanski, electrical superintendent.

Escanaba Green Energy Plans to convert the plant to biomass.
