IRONWOOD -- Wolf management has been a hot topic here in the Upper Peninsula for a while, and on Tuesday in Ironwood a public meeting was held to discuss options.
At Gogebic Community College, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, alongside the U.P. Citizen's on Wolf Management, met with concerned residents about the nearly 700 wolves in the U.P.
Over 270 people were in attendance, some of which had some major concerns.
"We've seen all kinds of wolves; we're just wondering what the state's going to do about it," said hunter David Zazeski. "If they're going to hold a season, it's about time they do, and we're just here to voice our opinions."
At the meeting it was explained that if there were to be a Michigan wolf hunt, it would not be an Upper Peninsula-wide hunt. Specialists said dogs would not be allowed on the potential hunt but that trapping could be an option.
Opponents say they hope to get the issue on the 2014 ballot.
