LANSING (AP) -- Michigan will get about $1.6 million to develop its State Health Care Innovation Plan.

The state says the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation grant is part of the State Innovation Models Initiative. Funding is to begin April 1.

The initiative provides nearly $300 million to support the development and testing of payment and health care delivery system transformation developed by states. The focus is on people enrolled in Medicare, Medicaid and the Children's Health Insurance Program.

Michigan will have six months to create a health innovation plan. Michigan Community Health Director James Haveman says transforming the state's health care system will ultimately provide better quality care for residents.
