NEGAUNEE TWP. -- People from across Marquette County got a closer look at local media Thursday. They were participating in the Lake Superior Leadership Academy, and the TV6 & FOX UP studio was part of the day-long tour.
The academy is run by the Lake Superior Community Partnership. About 20 participants came through the station Thursday morning, learning about all aspects of the television business, including internet, promotions, and the news.
Highlights of the tour included learning about old camera equipment and the green screen that meteorologists use to present a forecast.
The academy is in its 13th year and meets about once a month throughout the year. On other days, they have toured a courthouse and a local school.
Participant Alex Kofsky said he was encouraged to participate in the academy by his employer so he would get to know Marquette County better. He said he enjoyed seeing the work that happens behind the scenes at TV6.
"Seeing the inner-workings of everything you have to do is pretty amazing," said Kofsky. "To see how much work that each person has to burden to make everything run is quite eye-opening."
The day also included tours of 100.3 FM "The Point" radio station, The Mining Journal, and WNMU. Participants were able to ask more questions during a lunch with a guest panel of local media experts.
