MANISTIQUE -- Michigan Grant Sponsors, who are responsible for grooming our snowmobile trails, were testing new equipment over the weekend.
Twenty-two different trail groups came out for the event. The annual Michigan Snowmobile Association workshop gives the grant sponsors the opportunity to test drive tractors and see which fits their trail needs.
"There are so many different types of machinery to groom snowmobile trails that we need an opportunity for people to come demonstrate them," said MSA President Bruce Wood. "It gives an opportunity for manufacturers to come to one spot so people can compare one machine to the other."
The tractors, along with the grooming equipment, can cost anywhere from $200,000 to $300,000. The money to pay for the machinery comes out of the permits snowmobile riders pay. The machines can last anywhere from 5 to 15 years, depending on how many hours get put on it.
