GLADSTONE -- The City of Gladstone's plowing season started the second week of January, and plowing hasn't slowed down since.
The constant snow removal is really testing the aging fleet that includes a plow truck from 1985.
The average age of the machinery is 19 years old. Still, the plows are keeping up clearing just under 48 miles of streets and 9 miles of alleys in the city. Officials say they're still in budget as long as March doesn't bring them an overabundance of snow.
Residents are encouraged to remain patient as the crews clear the snow.
"The one tip would be to wait for the plows to make their second pass before they shovel out the end of their driveway," said Public Works Superintendent Barry Lund. "And also, when they are pushing snow out, actually, that's illegal to push snow into public right of ways when they do that, normally their neighbors are the ones who get that snow in their driveways."
There have been a lot of breakdowns in the fleet because of age, but after repairs, those machines are back to work.
